From all over the world, visitors come to Peru in order to walk the Inca trail which is undoubtedly the most famous hike in all of South America. The scenery and the ruins are the main attractions of this famous trail. The trail starts from a point called Kilometer 88, and spans around forty three kilometers. In order to start the trip, you must cross the narrow Kusicancha Bridge and then walk towards the left side of the Eucalyptus forest. You can either camp at Llullucha or Wayllabamba.

The second day is relatively tougher since you must climb the Warmiwañusqa Pass (Dead Woman’s pass) which is around four thousand and two hundred meters high. The third day is more interesting but it is also the longest. You get to see the remarkable ruins of Sayaqmarca and Runkuracay. Wiñayhuayna and Phuyupatamarca are the two sites available for camping. On the fourth and the final day, you can watch the sunrise over Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate. The rest of day can be spent sight-seeing the ancient city.

The Inca trail to Machu Picchu comprises of three interconnected trails. The longest of the three trails is Mollepata. It intersects with the classic route before is crosses the Dead Woman’s Pass. The trail is situated in the Andes mountain range and passes through different kinds of environments. The trail passes through several Incan ruins ending at the Sun Gate. The other two routes are more than twelve thousand feet above sea level. Taking these routes can cause altitude sickness.

machu picchu tours – Machu Picchu is the most visited site in Peru, and one of the top tourist destinations in all of South America. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Historic Sanctuary and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The Peruvian government is worried about erosion due to increasing number of visitors so it has limited the number of hikers. Guides-providing companies have also been severely limited. Only five hundred people – which include guides and porters – can commence hiking on the trail each day. Consequently, it is imperative that you book in advance. Moreover, the trail is closed every year in the month of February for cleaning purposes.

It normally takes around three to four days in order to complete the Inca Trail. It was built by the Incas in South America and covers almost twenty three thousand kilometers. The trail begins from Cuzco. At Wayllabamba, the trail traverses Mollepata at an altitude of nine thousand and eight hundred feet.

The trail to Machu Picchu spins west at Wayllabamba and ascends towards Warmiwañusca – Dead Woman’s Pass. After crossing this pass, the trail slides into Pacaymayu River drainage. The Incan tambo of Runkuraqay is situated one km along this trail at an altitude of twelve thousand three hundred feet. The trail ascends and the forest offers dramatic views of mountains. Here you can also see the valleys of Urubamba and Aobamba. A tiny spur of the trail goes towards Winay Wayna while the main trail leads to Intipata. From Winay Wayna, the route goes towards Machu Picchu. You can reach the Sun Gate or Intipunku from here. The final section of the trail consists of a short walk downward. Overall, the treks around Cusco and Machu Picchu are fun-filled and adventurous.

The Golden Gate Bridge is the oldest, longest, tallest single span bridge in the United States. The bridge is a uniquely special bridge because of age and construction. Plus from the bridge, you can see Alcatraz and Angel Island, which makes it even more special. Right? What we’re saying is true, right?

Well, not quite right.

Actually the Golden Gate bridge is no longer the longest single span bridge. Actually, the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge opened earlier than the Golden Gate Bridge did. Actually the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, which is what locals call the Bay Bridge, is longer than the Golden Gate Bridge. Actually the Bay Bridge offers great views of Alcatraz and Angel Island.

However the Golden Gate Bridge does have one strength that the Bay Bridge does not. The Golden Gate is the gateway to San Francisco. Still, the question is why the Golden Gate Bridge is so much more revered by tourists, sightseers, moviemakers and photographers.

Here’s some San Francisco bridge information:

1. Golden Gate Bridge as an icon

The Golden Gate Bridge has become a San Francisco icon because it had skillful public relations. PR has done a magnificent piece of work creating this bridge as an icon. From early in Golden Gate Bridge history, public relations were part of the bridge budget.

2. San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge as a non icon

The Bay Bridge has not become an icon. This non icon status is partly because the bay bridge connects San Francisco to Oakland. Public relations could develop the Bay Bridge as a San Francisco to Berkeley icon. Berkeley has the university, restaurants, shops, parks, and theaters. Unfortunately that has not happened.

alcatraz tours – For anyone who is visiting San Francisco, a particular spot you just can’t pass up is the infamous Alcatraz prison. Spending some time to take one of the numerous Alcatraz tours might be the most memorable part of your vacation.

3. Walking, running and biking across the bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge was designed for walking, running and biking. One side is for bikers and the other is for walkers and runners. The Bay Bridge was not so designed. Walking, running and biking are prohibited because there are no side lanes.

4. San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge facts

The Bay Bridge is 8.4 miles long, the longest high-level steel bridge anywhere. The bridge is painted silver. When the bridge opened in 1936, the upper deck was for cars and the lower deck was for street cars, trucks and buses. In 1958 the bridge was modified. Traffic into San Francisco used the upper deck; traffic out of San Francisco used the lower deck. On the average day, 280,000 vehicles cross the Bay Bridge.

5. Golden Gate Bridge facts

The Golden Gate Bridge is 1.7 miles long and Golden Gate Bridge is painted international orange. The bridge opened in 1937. On an average day, 120,000 vehicles cross the Golden Gate Bridge. This bridge is also a landmark for suicides. Although the common belief is that people come from all over to commit suicide from the Golden Gate Bridge, most people attempting suicide from the bridge are Northern Californians.

6. Pre bridge history

Before 1928, that is, before the two bridges, you could get across from Oakland or Marin to San Francisco via ferry. Ferries were crowded and bridges seemed a necessity.

7. Marin County and Alameda County

The Golden Gate Bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County, and the Bay Bridge connects San Francisco with Alameda County. The two counties share some attributes, but Oakland and San Francisco share few such attributes because the two cities are polar opposites. Most of Marin County is green and lush. Trees are plentiful; restaurants are everywhere; well-dressed people on cell phones meander through Sausalito and Larkspur. Their vehicles are new and shiny. Most of Marin County presents the image of the good American life.

Alameda County has nineteen cities. From what I have seen of Alameda County, parts of Oakland represent poverty and hopelessness. I know the Oakland hills are a zone of comfort, but Oakland, the downtown and the area around downtown, can seem to be a city of deserted buildings and houses with railings on windows. Trees, restaurants, and well-dressed people seem to be rare in many locations. The city tries hard, but is not even in the running for the good life.

My image is that on Sundays people in San Francisco jump into their cars to get out of the city for the day. They take the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and spend the day in the restaurants and the shops. They eat crab at restaurants near the water. Then they walk around and buy a gadget or two at one of the many galleries. They stop for ice cream and eat their ice cream on a bench near the water. They watch the people fishing.

A good public relations campaign could link San Francisco with Berkeley, but Berkeley may not need the additional people or traffic.

Are you trying to plan your next vacation but don't know yet where you want to go? Latin America is easily accessible, relatively cheap, and home to extraordinary countries filled with history, amazing culture and congenial people. But where to go? Unless you actually plan on traveling for months at a time, there is no way you'll be able to see it all in one trip, so you have to pick a specific destination to start your explorations in South America. Read this guide and learn 3 reasons to choose to travel to Peru in the next months.

Whether you are a seasoned traveler or this is your first trip abroad, you should always be concerned about airport security and facilities as you travel. It may not seem like a priority, but you may end up staying for a while in airports as you travel around. Layovers and delays are always part of a trip. Well you need not worry about Peru's international airport in Lima, which has recently been declared the best in South America for the third consecutive year by Skytrax Research at the 2011 World Airport Awards held in Copenhagen. The Jorge Chavez airport is the gateway to Peru and is indeed very efficient, easy to navigate, with friendly services and plenty of opportunities for shopping and eating to keep you entertained as you wait for your next flight.

April is a particularly interesting month to be traveling in Peru, as the celebrations of Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Easter generally overtake the entire country and are truly a sight to behold. Make sure to make your reservations in advance as this time of year is generally busy. Hotel Peru. However, you are guaranteed to get a unique experience and real insights into the Peruvian culture. Processions, fairs, and other festivities characterize this period. Make sure to be in Peru on April 28th-30th to attend the 12th Peru Gift Show, an international handmade gift and home accessories held yearly, which includes hundreds of companies from Peru and abroad.

This year, Peru is celebrating the centennial of the re-discovery of Machu Picchu by Hiram Bingham in 1911. It is the perfect time to visit this newly appointed World Wonder and catch a glimpse of the Incas' extraordinary might and technological skills. Even the world-recognized magazine National Geographic invites you to explore the citadel, which is featured on the cover of its April issue.

This guide to 3 reasons to discover Peru was written by a Peru travel expert at Peru For Less available to help you custom design your exciting Peru tours.
